Inspiration and Art

Sculptural Waste draws inspiration from the work of Margarida Lopes Pereira — an artist who transforms waste into sculptural, almost poetic, forms. She creates objects from waste foam from furniture or industry surplus, exploring its flexibility, texture and resistance. This collection reaffirms our commitment to responsible, creative practice, upholding the principles of Circular Design, with 26% of the references made using our Re(Play) yarn.

We’ve entered Chapter IV of the Embracing Circularity series with the theme Playful Pigments. Marta Rodrigues, our guest artist, explores nature’s colours through her Tons Terra project. She creates pigments from minerals and plants, inspiring a palette that celebrates creativity and sustainability. A meaningful part of this collection — 22% of the pieces — includes our recycled Re(Play) yarn.

“Clay Therapy” is the inspiration behind Chapter III of the “Embracing Circularity” series. Working with clay is an extension of ourselves, an art form where our conscious and unconscious ideas and desires are expressed silently. Madalena Telo, born among ceramicists, has developed a distinctive practice marked by authenticity. Just as shaping clay involves interacting with the earth to create something unique, Play Up always creates with responsibility and a deep respect for nature.

We've started Chapter II of the Embracing Circularity series and we're increasingly fascinated by the infinite ways in which we can "give life" to our waste. This collection was created under the theme "Wooden Memories". Maria and João, the So-So duo, are our guest artists. Inspired by Portuguese expressions, they create objects made from wood waste. In this collection, 50% of the garments have recycled fibres in their composition.

Creating art with our textile waste is a new form of expression for Play Up. This is how the new Embracing Circularity series came about. Textile art is the theme of the SS24 collection and Vanessa Barragão is our guest artist. Fascinated by the incredible magic of the seabed, she depicts the captivating coral ecosystems threatened by pollution in her mesmerizing creations. Immersed in her universe we created the mood for this new collection.
